This isprobably the best Mexican food my husband and I have ever had. The salsa is delicious, and the meat is absolutely amazing- such a great flavor. The steak and pork are great. Try the tacos, fajitas or carnita platter. Wow. Definitely authentic.

I liked the set up of the restaurant. Real small and mom and pa place. I ordered a margaritas due to someone review recommendations, I personally thought it was gross and sent it back for a Corona instead. Not to mention I LOVE MARGARITAS too. They give you chips and salsa when you arrive which is definitely a plus. Our food portions were huge, so we definitely left with togo boxes. Although I must say our dishes lacked flavor, kinda bland. I will probably returned because I believe in second chances

Ok - found myself in the area and decided to try this place based on reviews. Wanted a light lunch so went with 3 tacos and a margarita. Tacos el Teq... you get it. The staff was incredibly welcoming. You don't find that often enough. Base hit. Talked with the owner/manager about the tacos - 2 diff pork & a steak, and he asks "authentic or American style". Does anyone ever answer "No, not into authentic. Gimme 'merican with lots of cheese" when a Taco Bell is nearby?" Of course not - give me your authentic tacos. Chips came out with 3 salsa's - 2 were really good, didn't like the 3rd as much - too bitter for me. That's ok - the other 2 were plentiful. Tacos were out in 5 minutes. That's a double. Nice mounds of the filling on double ~4" corn tortillas. I ate them as presented because I was hungry. Next time will break down the toppings to both tortillas so an order of 3 will yield 6 smaller ones. The ingredients were quite fresh, but if you dislike cilantro as some do you will have a problem. I thought each was great. Included was about slice of about 1/4 lime and a roasted Jalapeno. Yum. Makes it a triple. And the home run was the marg. Good and reasonably priced. Home run. This was a good lite lunch - just what I wanted. A solid 4 because these were tacos, after all. I WILL go back and try another meal.

Great food, nice portions and quick service. Polite staff paired with a clean comfy place to eat makes for a great lunch stop. Had a "Chicago burrito" and it was yummy! Husband had flautas and cleaned the plate. Kids meals very reasonably priced. Will be back!

Had an assortment of tacos. They were amazing. Best I've ever had. My disclaimer though is I'm from PA. My wife had the chicken quesadilla and greatly enjoyed that as well. Food was prompt, and nice and hot. Service was as prompt and very friendly. I recommend this place.

We ate there on New Years Eve as most of the nearby restaurants were packed. Service was fine, the food was fine. I had a chimichanga. The chips and salsa weren't the best I've had. All in all, a decent place to go for some mexican food.

    (3)
  • Nina H.

Wow that was delicious! First off they served us chips with three kinds of salsa homemade by the way with tons of flavor. I got the chicken taco steak tostada and pork taco all of which had tremendous amounts of flavor will definitely go there again.

Gr8 authentic "meahi-co" food. (They sometimes deliver) FANTASTIC PRICES, Get Big Bang for your buck. Kids love there regular Mexico style tacos. Wifey loves Chix flautist. I love the "Carna Asada"! Just Real original Mexican food @a fair price We order there 2-3 times a month Gr8 Place for the cape‼ Love this restaurant

Folks- do this is not the place if you are looking for a gorgeous room. This IS the epitome of Cape Coral Strip Mall ambiance. That said, if you are offended by free beer distributor swag as a primary source for decor, get over yourself. Do it fast because you want to go and enjoy the fine tacos at Tacos El Tequilla. Order an assortment of beautiful little tacos (carne assada, lengua, carnitas, el pastor....you get the picture). Slather said tacos in fresh lime, cilantro, and a mixture of their house made salsas. Order another cold beer and ultimately smile that contented smile of those that have found something special. Something that sometimes can be hidden by a strip mall facade and a free Budweiser banner.

  • Sara G.

This is a very good authentic mom and pop Mexican joint. It's not Taco Bell- it's where you come for really spicy salsa, grilled cenobitic, chorizo and lengua. The margaritas are real, not from a mix. The sodas are Mexican and the kids menu has a mini burrito. It's tucked away in a strip mall like everything else worth eating in the area. And it's dirt cheap. Enjoy- and please try something new.

  • Lori W.

As others have said, don't expect the furnishings to attract you to this other hidden gem in SWFL. This is authentic. Carnitas (pork tacos) delicious, there is an open face fajita plate that was also delicious. Basically everything i have tried so far. Some things are inconsistently spicy so ask if thats something that bothers you. Dont expect sour cream to be the center of attention like other american mexican restaurants. If you aren't familiar with authentic mexican, this might be a surprise to you.

Great little spot with good food. There mexican tacos are great, fresh, tasty and cheap lol. when I'm running late to work I usually call them for a couple tacos and within 10 minutes they're done, ready to be picked up at while driving to work. beats fast food any day of the week.

  • Bill G.

Great authentic Mexican cuisine. Love the burrito fajita. The nachos were amazing also. I haven't had anything I didn't like. All items were made in house and with very fresh ingredients.

Food is delicious. Ordered beef enchiladas with red sauce. Chips come with 3 kinds of salsa.

  • Tammy B.

Authentic Mexican food not expected in this part of Florida. All sauces are prepared on premises and not from a can or jar. Even the chips are prepared and fried in the kitchen. They served a drink called a Michelada I'd never seen before, but nonetheless looked appealing, even for this non-beer drinker. I asked the staff what was in it and they told me it was a Mexican drink with beer, tomato juice and spices mixed together. If I've ever back in this part of Florida, I'd love to eat here again.

  • Katie B.

Authentic Mexican! For being in strip mall, this place has great food. My favorite has always been tacos al pastor and they did not disappoint. I actually added two more at the end of my meal and my husband (who had never had them before) was pleasantly surprised. He had the chicken nachos and the meat was fantastic. The free chips were a little stale but they were free so... I've had better chile relleno but the rice and beans was perfect. You can tell the food is prepared with care and piping hot. The atmosphere is family friendly and the place is clean. I would recommend to anyone who appreciates true Mexican food.

  • Royce J.

Yes, they are as good as it gets in S. FL. After 20 yrs in TX, now in SWF really missing good Mexican and TexMex food. But not any more, this place is great. The carnitas and chorizo tacos were as good as we have ever had, service was friendly and quick, and price excellent. Yes, its a strip mall, and not upscaled in any way, just great food at great prices.

  • Richard H.

Still searching for the greatest burrito in SWFL. This is not it. For 5 bucks it filling. Too much rice and beans (though refried beans a +) They FAILED to add hot pepper when I specially asked for them. The side hot saucered & green was ok not spicy or special. People and service was very good .Place was clean.

  • Scott B.

We had a great meal with excellent pricing. Everything was fresh, the service was excellent, and all the food tasted very good. I think the owner himself was doing the cooking and also waiting tables. I love the hustle that he had been trying to make sure everything went great. This is not a high-end restaurant nor is it fancy. It offers very reasonable pricing and the portions are sizable. The seating is little awkward and somewhat uncomfortable. Don't let the decor fool you everything will be great.

  • Jessica A.

Stopped by this place for some tacos for dinner. I thought it was a carry out but I was mistaken its a small dine in. I ordered two barbacoa tacos and they were delicious. I am definitely coming back.

  • Cameron C.

Rarely do I disagree with so many Yelp reviewers and for me this is a rare 1 star review. For us the service was horrible, the food was a disaster, the menus needed cleaning and the tabletops were filthy. It did smell good and the chicken itself was tasty... those are the only compliments I can muster. We started with a five minute wait before we saw a server. When one showed up, she took our drink order and a few minutes later a different waitress delivered us water but that wasn't what I ordered. She took our food order and didn't write it down. Couple minutes later she came back with a pad and pencil and took our order again. The place had a handful of customers but was not particularly busy. The Food.... The chips were thick, cold and hard. They were coupled with three salsas each one was a no-go zone. The salsa verde was the worst I have had. The thick red one was sweet and neither of us liked it. The brown salsa was probably the best of the lot but it was very watery. I had a chicken burrito and chicken soft taco. My wife had a fajita chimichanga. Somehow they fried the burrito and gave it to my wife then served me the non-fried fajita chimichanga. Took as a few bites to figure that one out. At this point we realized nothing about this place was worth repeating. We switched plates and quickly found that the chicken was in short supply in both entrees. I turned toward my chicken soft taco for relief but it only had six small pieces of chicken and a load of onion and cilantro on top. There was more green than chicken I think. After all that, I was still hungry so I came home and had a PBJ. So bad I won't even try a second round.

Not the best Mexican. Decent but not great. Margarita was terrible. Worst I've ever had. Atmosphere was nice although not very cantina. Cool tables and chairs. A Modelo was 3.50 and the complimentary water was nasty. This place could do a lot better with a few tweaks. Tex Mex Fajita came with three tiny tortillas. Sigh...

  • Anthony S.

Amazingggg fajitas. Good prices. Incredible portions. Lots of other things in the menu.

    (5)
  • James H.

The only place I know of in SWFLA that I know of where one can get authentic tongue tacos. All their tacos are traditional style and really well done. The rest of the menu is OK. well executed but a little too americanized. More TexMex than Mexican. Not really their fault, as they have to play to their audience.

  • Debra S.

Great food and the service was superb! !!!!! Large portions and several sauces served with chips. Fahitas are big enough to serve 2...and yummy!

Excellent authentic Mexican cuisine. Our party ordered an assortment of tacos and a chicken quesadilla...each were the best we'd had anywhere, hands down. Highly recommend.

  • Wendy S.

Hot hot hot nice place and atmosphere! Food was good. I think that the music was a bit loud but I still enjoyed being in the restaurant. I had a quesadilla with pico de gallo on the side and some really hot sauce that almost burned my tongue off. Lol I recommend this place for anyone wanting Mexican food in the cape!

    (4)
  • D K.

Tried it based on other reviews and it was good. For this area, very good. I had tacos: 2 carnitas and 1 steak. Carnitas were great. To correct other reviewers. The water is filtered, not tap. And the sauces/salsas are not watered down, they are authentic. You cannot compare them to crappy Americanized Mexican fast food places.

    (4)
  • Amy T.

Not too many Mexican restaurants to choose from around here. I have dined in once and got take-out the next time. The food was average, nothing to rave about. Given there are not too many other options in the area, it will have to do.

    (3)
  • Mike L.

Best Mexican food in the county. Nicest staff. The food is great and the prices low. High quality. Order anything I bet it's good. Tell them el guapo sent you.

  • Paul R.

Never had a bad experience, been consistently really good. They walk the authentic line very well. They have all of the real authentic stuff, but in a way that's not overwhelming for less adventurous people.

    (5)
  • Michael D.

Just got back....had 3 tacos.....lengua, carnitas, and barbacoa. Very good. Got a burrito to go for tonight...that is how good they were. Best tacos ever....no....that is for Mexico city and California. But for Cape Coral/Fort Myers.....best round here maybe. I should mention the red a green salsa....OUTSTANDING. I could bathe in it!

  • Nick D.

I had no idea this place was here!!! It's right next to the Publix on Pine Island and Pondella. (What was an Albertsons) This is little bit nicer than your average Taquería. They have special platters and such, but the tacos are fantastic. The sauces appear to be all made on premises. There is nice seating in a comfy dining area, and it's always clean. As I try more things on the menu, I'll update the review. I still like Taco Pancho, but this is a little bit better. Wow, I hate to say that it's better, I still like them both... It's catering to a different clientele? Ah, I'll never get it right.

  • Mackenzie V.

This mexican restaurant took me by surprise. It's a small dine-in restaurant with mexican pride going on. I wasn't a big fan of the salsa and didn't like the fact i ordered water and received it straight from the tap, but once i saw the menu, i was hoping for them to redeem themselves. The menu looked pretty good and it was hard to figure out what to order because all the pictures on the menu looked tasty. I wound up ordering the steak alembras. It's steak fajitas with onions, peppers, mushrooms and topped with lots of cheese(yummy) and every plate comes with rice and beans. I have to say when i received my plate, i immediately dug in. I was also offered the choice of corn or flour tortillas. I went with flour which definitely came in handy. Making my own little steak tacos was pretty fun and AMAZING. I literally finished my entire meal and i have never been more satisfied. Absolutely delicious! I would absolutely come back to this small time mexican restuarant anytime.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate.
